| Got this info directly from Preston Beckman the guy in charge of primetime scheduling for FOX TV broadcasting network.
In response to my questions about Prison Break scheduling including skipped weeks & long hiatuses and its move to Fridays as well as Olmstead's previously mentioned 'Extra 2-hours'.
Keep in mind that the Fox TV network that airs the episodes in the US is not the same entity as Fox TV Studios that creates the show.
Scheduling & programming is handled by the network & only gets profits from shows airing in the US on the fox network. Fox TV Studios who produces the show sells the show elsewhere and sees the profits from those sales.
Therefore, it seems to me, US ratings would matter more to the Fox tv broadcasting network. (Fox Studios would look at the whole profit package). Fox network's programming & scheduling execs decide when & where to air episodes not Fox Studios. Think of the entities as separate wholely owned subsidiaries under a parent company umbrella. Each is responsible for its own area.
Here's Preston's reply as he posted it on Project Fox (don't think he liked my questions from the tone. ):
"ok first of all Prison Break has spent it's entire run up to this point on Monday nights. We have broken the season into two parts in most of those years so that we can run chunks of them continuously to give the viewer the best experience possible. this show has not been scheduled erradically in my opinion.
Next we wanted to end the show after 16 episodes this season and not bring it back for six additional episodes. That was the plan. There was pressure put on us by our studio to make an additional 6 episodes. We at the network said that we could not bring the show back on Monday and that we would have to find a place for them on another night and that would be an insult to the fans. It was not our intent to make the six additional episodes.
Finally when we agreed to the additional 6 we were not aware of another two hour "finale" that the studio decided to make.
We told them we had a plan for the final 6 episodes and did not need another two hours and to be honest we do not plan on airing it. I can tell you that the six hours that we air in April and May will have a conclusion and that the additional two hours will not further the story beyond the conclusion that will air on FOX"
From his tone, I don't get the impression that Fox network is interested in a spin-off of a woman's prison either.
I haven't read the spoilers about the last 6 episodes or the 2 extra hours...although its hard to miss some rumors about the content of the extra 2 hours sometimes when things end up posted in GD GenPop by newbies, but from this I'm assuming that the foreign fans will get a better shot at seeing the extra 2-hours that those in the US. We'll have to wait for the dvd release in my opinion.
It does sound like Fox studios is going ahead and producing the extra 2...but so far Fox scheduling team has no intention of airing it in the US...but that doesn't stop the Studio from selling it else where.
Very interesting indeed.

| Question: Do you have anything on Prison Break's last episodes? --Abby Ausiello: Yes, but perhaps nothing that'll really surprise you. I mean, it's Prison Break -- you kinda figure people are gonna die (like, several of 'em). Aside from that, a few past characters are gonna resurface (including C-Note and Sofia), and the Company is gonna get shut down. (Yay!) Hey, on second thought, this might titillate you: Apparently, Michael is smacked with a Sophie's choice and has to decide whether to save Lincoln's head or Sara's. And since she's already lost hers once...

| Prison Break' Spoiler: Deaths on The Way
With only six episodes left, fans are waiting in anticipation to see how their beloved show will be coming to an end. After breaking out of prison several times, Michael and his team have gone on the offensive. So many questions have been left unanswered and imagining a happily ever after ending would be nice, but unlikely.
Michael Ausiello has just reported that we'll be seeing at least two deaths by the end of Prison Break. Evidently, Michael (Wentworth Miller) must choose whether to save Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) or Lincoln (Dominic Purcell). Just because the power is in Michael's hands doesn't mean one is sure to die. Maybe they both die. Maybe Michael sacrifices himself and neither dies. I'd be putting my money on a very unhappy ending. Don't Miss

More on...Prison Break >>
The chances of a happy ending were always slim to say the least, especially considering the season finales from seasons one through three. The dark themes of Prison Break have always been intense. Given this new piece of information these are the three most likely options:
1. Lincoln doesn't even let Michael decide and sacrifices himself for the brother who has given up everything to save him. 2. Michael ends up sacrificing himself to save both of them. 3. All three die in a Bonnie and Clyde glory run.
Obviously, we'll get more clues as they come in. With only six episodes left, the rest of the season will go by in a flash. Prison Break will return to FOX for its final run of episodes on Friday, April 17. What do you think will happen? Do you have more faith in a happy ending than me? How would you end the series if you were in charge? Sound off in the comments below.

| Question: Do you have anything on Prison Break's last episode? --Abby Ausiello: Justice will be served to both Pad Man and Christina, although one will involve far more blood than the other. Also, I have some more information on the finale's Alias-esque epilogue: The closing minutes of the swan song will flash forward four years to show where all the main characters ended up. For more on PB's big climax, pick up the new issue of EW (on sale Friday) and turn to page 56.

I heard that Fox is not going to air the extra two episodes of Prison Break. Please tell me if this is true or not! — Liz MATT: First, a little background for those just passing by: Prison Break returns Friday, April 17, with six episodes that will wrap up the series in a tidy (if bloodstained) bow. Beyond that, 20th Century Fox TV is independently producing an additional two hours that could serve as a standalone "event" à la 24: Redemption. The Fox network has yet to commit to airing those hours, but if PB ends with a bang, you can bet they'll find room on the schedule. Who will appear in the standalone story, you (didn't exactly) ask? Pretty much anyone left breathing at the end of May — plus Jodi Lyn O'Keefe's Gretchen.

| PW: Most fans first discovered you as Maricruz on "Prison Break." Then another actress replaced you, and then you returned -- was that awkward? Camille: She was a friend of mine, that was the worst part. Basically one day I had to call her and say, "I don't know what's happening but they want me to come back." I was the one to break the news to her since no one told her anything about it.
PW: That's terrible Camille: I know, it's one of those tough actor moments.
PW: So will Maricruz be back for the series finale? Camille: You know...I don't want to give it away.
PW: I'll take that as a yes! Camille: No, no, no...I don't want to give away what happens, but let's just say I'm a little disappointed. It's not a positive thing.

| So, Prison Break is due to return to US screens in a mere 18 days (not that we're counting...) but that also means the end of the series is nigh (sigh).
In anticipation of the new episodes, we thought you might appreciate a few teasers about what's to come in the final tranche...
* The plan to expose The Company hits a snag when the brothers are framed for a crime they didn't commit. Could they be headed for prison again?
* A few past cast members are rumoured to be returning - and one is an original Fox River inmate!
* Michael is faced with an impossible choice when both Sara and Lincoln's lives are on the line. Will he save his brother or his girlfriend?
* Gretchen, Mahone and T-Bag are among those lucky enough to be alive by the end of the season. Hurrah!
* We're treated to a Prison Break 'movie' after the series finale! The two hour-long shows will see Michael face his most challenging break ever... | |

| “We’re doing a little bit of a wrinkle in time, because the end of episode 22 is the end of the journey for these guys, and we do a flash-forward to see where everybody is four years from now. It was a surprising reaction for me. It was an emotional reaction, because you realize the investment in the characters. You also realize how much they’ve been through and, in a way, how noble they are for continuing to fight, So when you see where they are - good and bad and bittersweet - down the road, it’s pretty powerful.”
